Dept of Ideas: Otherworldly Landscapes Created by Whisky Dregs

By David Schonauer   Thursday July 11, 2019

Photographer Ernie Button was washing dishes when he noticed something beautiful at the bottom of a whisky glass that had contained Scotch whisky (whiskey comes from elsewhere). He saw a thin residue of evaporated alcohol with sediment from the whisky’s distillates, and that discovery led Button on a decade-long project in which he created images of a fantasy universe. Through trial and error, Button found that only Scotch whiskies accumulate enough sediment to create his otherworldly images, notes National Geographic.
