Industry News: Senators Urge FAA to Approve Drone ID Rules

Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey, a Democrat, and South Dakota Senator John Thune, a Republican, have urged U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao to finalize rules regarding the remote identification of unmanned aircraft systems. Remote ID, in its simplest form, is the concept that drones should have a digital license plate — an electronic system that verifies the location and operator while the drone is airborne, notes DP Review. “Remote identification will enhance safety, security, and privacy, and serve as a critical tool for law enforcement,” noted the senators.
