Exhibitions: Evoking Haarlem and Harlem

By David Schonauer   Wednesday October 10, 2018

In her series “The Golden Age,” photographer Alanna Airitam “weaves a tale of two cities exchanging ideas over the centuries, reuniting Old and New Amsterdam – Haarlem and Harlem, to be exact,” notes Feature Shoot. The work speaks to history and the present — the 17th-century Dutch renaissance and the current Harlem renaissance with images that are painterly and timeless. “There was this really interesting juxtaposition,” says Airitam. The work is on view at theCatherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago through October 27.
