Latin American Fotografía and Ilustración 8 CALL FOR ENTRIES

American Illustration-American Photography (AI-AP), the leading juried annuals in North America, honors the best work being created today in Latin America. AI-AP, well-known for 38 years as the exclusive resource for art directors, designers, photo editors, art buyers and publishers seeks to introduce established, emerging and student Latino illustrators and photographers to the North American market - and vice versa - in a global, multi-cultural exchange of art and ideas.
Latin American Fotografía and Ilustración 8 will be judged by an international jury of top creatives who commission illustration and photography for use in magazines, advertising, books, posters, packaging, promotion, and video. Unpublished, fine art and student work will also be eligible.
The collection of winning LAF/LAI 8 images will be presented at the annual AI-AP launch party in New York City in November 2019 - the most anticipated networking event of the year that brings photographers, illustrators and creatives together to celebrate the year's winning images.
The winning Latin American Fotografía and Ilustración 8 collection will be included in the following:
• Exhibited at The Party in New York City, November 7th 2019, celebrating the launch of AP35 and AI38
• Exhibition produced by EPSON in:

- Motivarte, Buenos Aires, Argentina - Photoville, Brooklyn,NY
• One winner form Latin American Fotografía 8 will receive a scholarship for one of the workshops that are taught at the Escuela de Fotografía Motivarte, ARGENTINA. (Not including passage or alojaminto).
• All winners of LAF8 will receive a 50% discount on one of the ONLINE photography courses taught at the Escuela de Fotografía MOTIVARTE.
• Produced in an exhibition catalogue sponsored by EPSON also sent to select art directors and designers.
• Included in The Archive, AI-AP's searchable juried collection of winning images at ai-ap.com which receives over 200 unique visitors daily. Images will include illustrator's and photographer's contact, caption and creative credits.
• Winner's Slideshow announcement sent to AI-AP's 30,000 global email subscribers in September 2019.
• Featured in Dispatches From Latin America, AI-AP's ProPhoto Daily newsletters sent to over 20,000 subscribers in the creative community.
• Selected winners from Latin American Fotografia 8 will have the opportunity to present their work at the acclaimed PROJECTIONS event. These are held monthly in NYC and are attended by photographers, creatives and others allied to the industry. The November event, held on Nov. 6th the day before the annual AI-AP Party, will have a Latin theme. When this years finalists are notified we will review portfolios of everyone who will be attending our events and is interested in presenting to select the participants.

ENTRY FEES
Illustration and Photography Professional
$25 per single illustration or photograph in any category.
$50 per series of 10 related images from a book, catalog, annual report, calendar or video.
$50 per editorial, advertising, promotional or unpublished/personal series of up to 10 related images.
Student Fees
$10 per illustration or photogaph –or-
$50 per portfolio of up to ten images by an individual, class or department.
Payments can be made by credit card when you check out, or you can send a check made payable to either American Photography or American Illustration. An invoice will be available in Step 5 before you check out. Please include your member ID number on the check.

ELIGIBILITY
Photography and Illustration-Eligibility
- Latin American Citizens Living Anywhere. Includes Puerto Rico, Cuba, México, Belice, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Guyanas, Surinam, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay and citizens of Spain and Portugal and ALL spanish/portuguese speaking countries.
- Everyone living or Studying in Latin America, regardless of nationality.
- Everyone with Latin American Ciients or Projects, regardless of nationality.
- All images with Latin American subject matter by Anyone, regardless of nationality.
- Work created or published between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018 for both print and digital media.
- Work created in 2018 for publication in 2019 is OK. All images in an ongoing project that stared earlier and continued into 2019, whether published or not, are OK.
CATEGORIES
Editorial
Individual images or stories on any subject for magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals in both print and digital media. Including assigned outtakes. SUBCATEGORIES required: Photojournalism/News; Portraiture; Fashion/Design; Food; Travel/Lifestyle; Sports; Conceptual; Other.
Books
Covers, individual images and sequential series from trade books, limited editions, children's books, graphic novels, comic books and self-published editions. SUBCATEGORIES required: Children's Books; Monographs; Adult Fiction/Non-Fiction; Graphic Novels/Comics; Other.
Advertising
Ads in consumer and trade magazines, newspapers, websites and all other media. Entire campaigns or individual images accepted from print and digital media.
Graphics/Promotional
Images and all forms of designed material for brochures, annual reports, catalogs, direct mail, announcement cards, CD covers, calendars, posters, websites, point-of-sale or merchandising and self-promotion pieces from print and digital media.
Posters
Designed promotional, political, music and theater posters for commercial or not-for-profit clients and self-generated projects.
3-D
3-D vinyl and plush toys, products and installations for either not-for-profit or commercial purpose.
Video, Animation and Motion Graphics
Live action and animation for feature films, television commercials, documentaries, websites, games and music videos. Includes any image or design that moves. Up to 10 still images accepted per project.
Unpublished
Self-generated personal, experimental and fine art work.
SUBCATEGORIES required: Personal Work; Fine Art; Nudes, Other.
Students
Any work by full or part-time students completed in 2018. Students may submit individually or as part of a department or class.
FILES FOR UPLOAD
Prepare JPG files at 72 dpi, RGB, 1000 pixels on the longest side, up to 2MB. Create any unique name for each file using letters and numbers. Do not use special characters or spaces. For series, you can add a number to each file, example: tree1.jpg; tree2.jpg etc. Save files as a jpg. NO PDF, EPS or TIFF files will be accepted.
HOW TO ENTER
- Choose to enter either Latin American Fotografía 8 -or- Latin American Ilustración 8.
- Set up an account by establishing a username and password. Then register with your name and contact information. If you're already a member of AI-AP, log in as a returning user to start your submission.
- The site will then guide you through 7 Steps to submit: Register/Log In, Enter, Upload Image, Confirm, , Review/Edit, Checkout.
Before you begin, please have the following ready:
- Your contact information for registration and notification.
- Photographer or Illustrator's name for each image, series, book or video.
- Title and brief description of each image, series, book or video.
- Publication title if published.
- Publication, exhibition or execution date for unpublished work.
- Category, see list above and note where subcategory is required.
- Images saved as JPG, 72 dpi, RGB, 1000 pixels on the longest side, up to 2MB. Create any unique file name using letters and numbers only. Example: dog1.jpg; dog2.jpg ect.
DO NOT use special characters or spaces in your image file name.
- Credit card or check for payment.
- A payment confirmation will be available after checkout and a receipt will be sent to you by email.(Charges will appear on your bill from AMILUS, Inc.)

THE ARCHIVE lets the user search the juried collection of images by volume, subject, photographer, illustrator, creative, publication, client, agency, representative, design firm, school and instructor - and then make direct contact with the photographer or illustrator.
EDUCATION

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does Latin American Fotografía and Ilustración company (LAF, LAI and AI-AP) retain the rights to my images?
NO, you the artist keep all rights to your images. LAF and LAF has the right to use the images only for the exhibit, cataloguge, the website ARCHIVE and in the materials to promote the LAF-LAI Call for Entries .
What's the difference between Selected and Chosen images?
Selected image appear in the book and website.
Chosen images appear only on the website.
What file size can I submit?
JPG files are required for submission. Upload only files 72dpi, RGB, 1000 pixels on the longest side up to 2 MB. Use any unique file name, but do not include special characters or spaces in the file name. Save file as a .jpg.
What if my JPG files won't upload?
Be sure the files are saved as .jpg at 72 dpi, RGB and no more than 2MG. Also, be sure the file name contains no special characters. Use only letters and numbers.
Can I submit a disk for consideration?
No, you must upload individual JPG files as instructed for all single, series, book and video entries.
Can I submit a URL for consideration?
No. You must upload individual JPG files as instructed.
If I'm submitting a book, catalogue or video animation, what do I submit?
For books, you must upload up to 10 JPG files to represent the entry. This can include cover or inside images or both. For video and animation, you must upload up to 10 JPG still frames.
Can I send prints, tearsheets, books or video on CD?
No, a JPG is required for submission. If you'd like to also send the physical book or prints or a video on CD to accompany your JPGs, please contact us for details: info@ai-ap.com. Please note, there is an additional handling fee of $25 when submitting physical materials.
What should I do if I'm not sure which category my work fits into?
Choose the most appropriate category. Based on your brief description, we will place your work into a different category if necessary.
How many images can I submit in a series?
Up to 10 images that are related in terms of content or usage.
Can I also enter an image from a series as a single image?
Yes, but it's not necessary. The judges, at their discretion, may select an individual image(s) from a series as a winning image.
Can I enter both LAF and LAI at the same time with one payment?
No, a separate entry and payment is required. However, if entering both competitions, once you've completed one submission, you can log back in as a RETURNING USER for quick access to your account where you can enter the next show.
Can I edit my submission before I submit it and pay for it?
Yes, the site will guide you in the submission process and in STEP 6 will show you your entries. Before you submit and pay, you will be able to remove and resubmit images. Once you submit and pay however, it is not possible to remove or exchange images.
Can I edit text after I submitted it?
Yes, you can revise the title or description on the entry form by going logging in to your account where you can edit text. You can also update your contact info.
Can I change an image after I've submitted it?
No, once you've paid and checked out you cannot replace an image. However, you will be given the opportunity to edit and upload a new image in Step 6 before you check out. Please contact us directly with any problems info@ai-ap.com
Can I log back in and submit more work once I've checked out and paid?
Yes, log in as a RETURNING USER on the CFE home page with our email and password and hit submit. From there you can view your entries and add more from your AP or our AI account.
Will I receive a notice that my online submission has been received?
Yes, once you've completed your submission, you will automatically receive an email confirmation that includes your member ID number with the amount paid by credit card or the amount due if paying by check. This will act as your receipt.
Can I pay by check?
Yes, click the box on the payment page and make checks payable to American Photography or American Illustration. Be sure to write your online registration ID number on the check.
Can I get an invoice in order to request a company check?
An invoice showing the amount due will be generated for you in Step 5 of the submission process.
Can I get a receipt for my entry fee?
If paying by credit card, a confirmation showing your submission and the final amount paid will be sent by email and serves as your receipt of payment. If paying by check, the email confirmation and cancelled check serves as your receipt.
What if I can't register or submit my images online?
Please check that you do not have a firewall installed that is preventing access. You may also try to submit using a different computer from work or home. Contact info@ai-ap.com with any other technical problems.
Can I get a Federal ID number in order to request a company check?
Our number is 13-3645820 under Amilus Inc. d/b/a American Photography and American Illustration
How can I find out the results of the competition?
Winning entrants will be notified individually by email with details on what is required for inclusion in the book, exhibit and website. All entrants will be notified with the results and an announcement with a link presenting the winning images will be sent by email to everyone in September.
