El Ombligo de la Luna (The Navel of the Moon)
El Ombligo de la Luna (The Navel of the Moon). October 2015. Rounding up livestock—or “rodeos,” in Spanish—evolved from necessity in New Spain. The lifestyle was perpetuated as Mexico’a national sport: charrería. These Querétaro National Championship images are part of an ongoing exploration of Mexico’s cultural richness through the lens of one of its expatriate sons in the US: "El Ombligo de la Luna." The title of the series is the English translation of the Aztec word "Mexico." The work is influenced by by the schools of modernism and magical realism. Enrique Samson is a Mexican architectural and documentary photographer based in Atlanta, Georgia.
