The Whispering Dark
The Whispering Dark is a photographic series that explores the fragile boundary between inner life and the physical spaces we inhabit. Created in historic interiors and shadowed landscapes, the images combine figure, architecture, and layered exposure to evoke moments where memory, fear, and imagination quietly surface.
While rooted in my personal experience of growing up surrounded by art, history, and silence, the work moves beyond autobiography to consider the way environments shape our emotional lives. Empty corridors, dim rooms, and overgrown gardens become psychological spaces. The female figure appears not as a portrait of a single individual, but as a stand-in for the viewer’s own sense of vulnerability, transformation, and endurance.
The work asks how we carry the past within us, how childhood perceptions linger into adulthood, and how women in particular learn to move through domestic spaces that are both beautiful and constraining.
