A fashion show and a dog show are essentially the same thing.
Both shows involve a phalanx of photographers. The venue smells of hair spray. The audience wears sequins, pearls, cowboy hats and purple hair. The participants wear rhinestones and fur, powder and mousse. There's always a final lap around the runway — either panting or gazing into the middle distance with a lipsticked pout.
In February 2025, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and New York Fashion Week happened just blocks apart in Manhattan.
