New York City Comptroller Brad Lander appeared at 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan on the morning of June 17 to observe immigration hearings as ICE agents began arresting immigrants during their court appearances.
The politician walked arm-in-arm with an immigrant whom federal agents moved to seize, while also assaulting and handcuffing Lander. This marked the first time an elected official was arrested by ICE and a major escalation in immigration enforcement in New York City.
