Guarding the Shroud
Young members of the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church who recently left Ukraine “guard” the Holy Shroud Saturday, April 19, 2025, as part of Easter weekend activities at the church in Johnson City, N.Y. This historic congregation, its founding dating back to about 1900 when the first Ukrainian immigrants in the area were young girls who worked in cigar factories, now supports about 100 families, some of whom have resettled in the US after fleeing the conflict as negotiations to end the war drag on.
