Escape From Gaza
Escape to Gaza documents the evacuation process of a small number of sick and wounded Gazans to the United Arab Emirates via Israel. Only those with severe cases — a lost leg, a cancer diagnosis, a missing arm, blindness in both eyes — are evacuated on the humanitarian-aid flights making their way from an airstrip near the Israeli city Eilat to Abu Dhabi. Their destination was the Emirates Humanitarian City, a custom-built housing complex for injured refugees. This journey is one of few escapes from a conflict that has claimed the lives of an estimated 45,000 people, more than half of them women and children. The World Health Organization and the United Arab Emirates have evacuated over 2,000 injured Palestinians from Gaza over the past year.
