Caption: Julio Valdes, a firefighter with the Eagle Pass Fire Department, works with the Texas Sheriff’s Department and local mortuary to retrieve the body of a 23-year- old Mexican migrant found in the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass, Texas on March 10, 2024. With the recent surge on the border, they have been retrieving as many as 17 bodies a month whereas in the past they might have had six drownings in a year.

America is a country of paradoxes and complexity. While people often rush to classify and simplify our collective identity, this project seeks to peel back those layers, allowing individuals to dictate their own narratives.
