No Water in California. February 2022. A third of the water of Los Angeles comes from the Owens Valley. It is here that, a hundred years ago, Los Angeles bought up approximately 300,000 acres of land, thereby obtaining water rights over the Owens River. So Los Angeles was transformed from a sleepy village to the metropolis we know today.
