Preparations continued as night fell on the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 18, 2021. A Quiet Inauguration. January 2021. After Jan. 6, an eerie hush fell over Washington. Troops plodded through posh neighborhoods, the National Mall became off limits and concertina wire encircled the Capitol. But, as Damon Winter documented, when Inauguration Day arrived the silence wasn’t so foreboding. Actually, it was kind of nice.
