Andre Bauma and Ndakasi, Rumangabo, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Ndakasi's Passing. September 2021. The final moment of orphan mountain gorilla Ndakasi, dying of a mysterious illness in the arms of her caregiver of 13 years, Andre Bauma. It was Bauma who rescued Ndakasi from a massacre of 9 mountain gorillas, taking her from her dead mother as she tried to suckle.
