Jose de Almeida Rocha, 62, is collected from his home, carried in a hammock, to be taken to the hospital in Manacapuru with symptoms of coronavirus. In a year when a deadly virus overtook cities around the globe, photographer Tyler Hicks went to extraordinary lengths, and took on enormous personal risk, to show that the pandemic was battering communities in one of the most remote, neglected — and culturally rich — regions on earth.
