Moving Through Staying: A Photographer’s Lens Turned To Self. April 20-20.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, I turned my camera lens onto myself. The project brought with it new technical challenges - being both creative director and subject - helping me unlock deeper levels of myself as an artist. As I sheltered in place, I uncovered the pain previously avoided in my life, to discover the power of vulnerability.
On Wearing Indian. April 2020. This series examines belonging, beauty standards and my Indian-American identity. It subverts the traditionally beautiful Indian garment, the sari. The usually hidden undergarment becomes the subject while hiding the woman beneath. The weight of the sari serves to overwhelm rather than beautify.
