For America’s Black mothers, the fear of loss and trauma is constant
For America’s Black Mothers, The Fear of Loss and Trauma is Constant. Central Los Angeles, California. August 2020. Stranger Fruit was created in response to the murders of African American men due to police violence. Using the motif of the Pietà, photographer Jon Henry photographs mothers and sons across the country focusing on the grief, suffering and stress this constant fear puts on the community. The mothers in the images have not lost their sons, but understand the reality that this could happen to them, their family or community.
