West Virginia Coal Miner. Coal - A Portrait Series. March 2020. This is one of a self-promotional series of portraits in a West Virginia coal mining community. During the Trump Administration, there was a lot of talk about "clean coal" and there was equally as much blowback. What I felt was getting lost in the conversation were the men who have been working underground, day after day, year after year, for generations, doing impossibly dangerous work. Coal historically has been one of the vital ingredients of building America and I didn't want their contribution to be overlooked.
