The Dream of the North. August 2018. A Webb County sheriff’s deputy assisted Border Patrol in stopping a smuggling operation transporting undocumented migrants from a stash house in Laredo, Texas, on August 13, 2018. The group was tracked and apprehended by a group of agencies, including U.S. Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigators. On the southwest border, stash houses are at the center of a human smuggling chain that moves hundreds of thousand of people a year across the border and into the United States.

The Dream of the North

The Dream of the North. August 2018. A U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent making his way back to his vehicle on Aug. 13, 2018 after following a group of men who were attempting to cross the river into Laredo, Tex., before turning back. Laredo, a city of about 250,000 people, lies along the U.S.-Mexico border and is safe compared to its Mexican counterpart, Nuevo Laredo, just south of the Rio Grande. But because of its proximity it is still part of a vast human and drug smuggling network.
