A World with Two Sons: Twenties Explorations
A World with Two Sons: Twenties Explorations. December 2018. A World with Two Sons is a body of work which I began in New York in 2005 when my sons were 14 and 15, attending the French-language school Lycée Français and living with me in the West Village. The work centers on an individual and family exploration, which deepens over a 14-year-period. Through high school their friends were allowed and encouraged to hang out at our home frequently, and the work also describes this important context of my sons’ socialization, including portraits of their friends and shared situations.
‘A World with Two Sons’ consists of two volumes: Teen Tribe (2005-2010) and Twenties Explorations (2011-on), still work in progress. It is a bildungsroman of sorts which delves into the intense present of their adolescent states of mind and connects and expands into their twenties as they gradually become independent adults.
