A five-hour bus ride north of Beijing lies Chongli, the site of many of the alpine events in the 2022 winter Olympics. A once quiet rural village, the arid land is being terra-formed into a resort community with a cluster of multi-billion dollar ski resorts covered white by machine-made snow. A new bullet train will bring the growing numbers of Chinese skiers --projected to be 100 million by 2022-- to the slopes in less than an hour. Kari Medig visited the region for Outside magazine with writer Tim Neville to look at China's burgeoning ski scene.
