It’s tough saying goodbye,” said Carrie Peterson, after dropping flowers over the grave of her dog, Asia, on their family farm in Odessa, Florida. Last Moments. August 2017. focuses on the human-animal bond - specifically, the minutes before, and after, the passing of a pet in their home. The project is an intimate look into the lives of people and their beloved pets, as well as a testimony to the intense emotional bond between the two. I’ve been documenting this intersection with an organization called “Lap of Love,” which provides end-of-life pet care, for the past year. It’s part of a growing movement, moving from the veterinarian clinic to the home setting.
