The Dongting Lake People
The Dongting Lake People. February 2017. I photographed a community of fishermen who live in boats on China’s second-largest lake, home to 10,000 people from six Chinese provinces. These fishermen have lived for generations by fishing on the enormous lake and are now faced with circumstances including dramatic lake shrinkage, displacement, pollution and aging.The lake is in a state of flux but is also steeped in folklores and myths.
