The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Nepal earlier this year surpassed 5,000, triggering a massive avalanche on Mount Everest that killed at least 18 people. It was the deadliest earthquake to hit Nepal since a 1934 quake took the lives of more than 10,000 people.
