Boca Raton, Florida. Winter break. Snow Birds. January 2016. No classes, dreary grey skies, freezing wind, friends off with family; left me day dreaming of sun drench days, and soft white sand sifting through my finger and toes. The perfect place for a short three day January winter vacation. Carry-on in hand, within a few short hours I found myself strolling the beach in Boca Raton, Florida, surrounded not only by the palm trees and crystal blue waters as I had imagined but also a flock of “Snow Birds”. I quickly learned that “Snow Birds” is an affectionate term used to refer to the wealthy elderly seasonal residents whom escape the frigate cold street in the north east coast and “fly” south to their million dollar estates for the winter. During this winter "migration" their days are spent lounging on sun soaked beaches and dining in exclusive restaurants.
