Superstorm Sandy hit New York City late in the evening on October 29th, 2012. As waters rose across the five boroughs, a fire broke out in the small beach front community of Breezy Point, Queens. The following morning, neighbors and residents gathered at the flooded, scorched site, where over 100 homes were lost, as emergency crews cut off by the floods had been unable to quickly extinguish the blaze.
