Counterfeit Paradises

Chateau Zhang Laffitte, located in Beijing, is the oriental twin of France's Château Maisons Laffitte, Two from a series for “Counterfeit Paradises,” July 2012, an article that explores the cracks between the cities developing across China. As the grand development grows at a relenting pace, along with sites of leisure and tourism now enjoyed by the growing middle class, pollution, natural resource depletion, relentless traffic, corruption and social tensions heightened by growing income disparity are now a part of daily life.
