Kosovo - Cultural Genocide
Visoki Decani Monastery, Kosovo - Cultural Genocide, December 2012, two from a series. After the war ended in the defeat of the Serbs in 1999, more than 100 Orthodox holy places were attacked and destroyed with the sole purpose of erasing their memory. The few monasteries that survived are closed enclaves and their existence and security depends on the presence of NATO. Kosovo and its monasteries are proof—in terms of culture, art and symbolic meaning—of the intimate connection between Western Europe and the Middle East.
