American Girls
Maya and Leela, NY, 2011, one from the project American Girls, a series of portraits of girls in America who own American Girl dolls, extremely popular toys which embody contemporary cultural values, stereotypes and perpetuate domesticity and traditional gender roles. The dolls can be customized to look like their owner and were conceived to be “anti-Barbie” toys modeled after a body of a nine year old. Student work.
