The Unseen Guardian of a Misunderstood Universe
This editorial illustration was inspired by historical misconceptions that wrongly blamed mothers for autism. Rather than portraying autism as a flaw or illness, the piece presents neurodivergent children as individuals living within vivid, complex inner universes that are often misunderstood by society.
In my interpretation, their mothers become invisible guardians — protecting and supporting their children in a world that struggles to understand them. The illustration explores themes of misunderstanding, tenderness, and neurodiversity through a symbolic and emotional lens.
