Part of a series of covers published for the New Yorker's centenary anniversary issue, Kerry James Marshall’s reinterpretation of New Yorker mascot, Eustace Tilley, opens the dandy's eyes as he closely observes a butterfly drone. But now we also get to see the butterfly’s point of view within the dandy robot’s chest—a complex commentary that only a visual narrative could achieve so succinctly. Marshall’s cover extends Rea Irvin’s original wit into our century, prompting reflection on how technology and A.I. are reshaping our understanding of human nature.
