Latvians in Central Kaserne
This image is from my illustrated memoir, Irma: An Intergenerational History, which tells the story of my grandmother Irma's experience as a Displaced Person (DP) from 1944-1949, and my process of researching and understanding the significance of her experiences. This illustration depicts a DP camp in one of the cities in Germany where Irma worked for the International Refugee Organization. DPs were housed in former barracks, many of which had been partially destroyed during WW2.
