Escaping Wars and Waves
Rezan and Rocca, Kos Island. Escaping Wars and Waves. February 2016. On behalf of the NGO Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors without Borders I visted the Greek island of Kos to interview and photograph Syrian refugees arriving in overcrowded dinghies from the Turkish mainland. I used the photos as reference for my pencil drawings depicting the people I met. The texts are handwritten and edited transcripts of the interviews conducted on location. Colors were done digitally. The finished drawings were published in Harper's (USA), Annabelle (Switzerland) and Internazionale (Italy).
