Human-Protein-Infecting Antiviral
Article Abstract:
A handful of antiviral treatments have been developed in recent decades, but resistance can quickly evolve. A few researchers are trying a completely different approach. The idea is to exploit the fact that viruses are little more than boxes containing genetic information and rely on the machinery of the cells they infect to replicate themselves. Targeting human rather than viral proteins not only means these antivirals will be broad spectrum, it should also be very difficult for viruses to evolve resistance, possibly allowing them to work against just about every known human virus.
