Submissions are now being accepted for Hasselblad’s Masters 2018 Competition. The competition is open to photographers who have been active professionals for more than three years. You can submit images made with digital cameras (minimum resolution of 16 megapixels), drone cameras, or film cameras, regardless of brand or format. There are 11 categories, ranging from architecture and portrait to fashion/beauty and wildlife. Deadline: June 10. Winners will be announced in January 2018.   Read the full Story >>

Legal Brief: Touching Photo Prompts Charges of Child Neglect

Photographer Heather Whitten’s viral photo of her husband cradling their sick son in a shower caused a stir last year when Facebook repeatedly removed the image. Now, reports PetaPixel, the photo is the subject of a legal battle between Whitten and the Arizona Department of Child Safety and could result in the photographer being convicted of child neglect. The photo was made in 2014, when the child had salmonella poisoning and was suffering high fever and diarrhea. There is a Change.org  petition supporting Whitten.   Read the full Story >>

State of the Art: 500px Launches Global Photographers Directory

The latest service from photo community and licensing marketplace 500px is called 500px Directory. Launched in Beta in December, the service is now active globally with almost 50,000 photographers representing 191 countries registered. Essentially, it allows 500px members to advertise specific services — aerial photography or portraiture, for instance. Clients can then contact them.
