A federal judge ruled that cancellations to more than 1,400 grants approved by the National Endowment for the Humanities by the Elon Musk-led Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) were unconstitutional. Judge Colleen McMahon of Federal District Court in Manhattan ordered DOGE to rescind the cancellations in a ruling in favor of the plaintiffs in two lawsuits contending that the cuts “violated the First Amendment and, by singling out work relating to particular groups, the equal protection component of the Fifth Amendment,” notes Art News. The exhibition “Made in America: The Industrial Photography of Christopher Payne,” on view at Cooper Hewitt in New York through September 27, “take you inside American factories, showcasing the traditional craftsmanship behind the creation of musical instruments, flags, footballs, and pinball machines,” notes the design museum. As previously reported, Nikon lost a record-breaking 86 billion yen, or more than $542 million at current exchange rates, in the last fiscal year. Now, notes PetaPixel, Nikon’s largest shareholder, the French-Italian eyewear company EssilorLuxottica, is reportedly weighing a major acquisition of the company, sending its stock soaring. Bottom line: Nikon is deciding whether to remain independent or sell to EssilorLuxottica, adds PP.
