Most newly identified minor planets and near-Earth asteroids emerge from survey archives rather than individual observing programs. However, notes DIY Photography, in February, an independent observer identified a previously unknown near-Earth asteroid before these survey systems reported it. Amateur astronomer Filipp Romanov identified asteroid 2026 CQ3 on February 15 while examining a sequence of images obtained with the 2-meter Liverpool Telescope at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma, Canary Islands. Photographer Andrea Marti says that thinking about “hookup culture, intimacy and social media” led her to begin “Everyone Is Beautiful and No One Is Horny,” her series of fictionalized images of couples kissing. (The project’s title comes from Raquel S. Benedict’s essay on how media both fetishizes and desexualizes bodies.) The work, notes It’s Nice That, “is the result of a sad realization – if you want images of closeness and desire amongst young people today, they might have to be set up.” Read the full Story >>

Coming to Kickstarter on May 5 is the Light Meter Watch by startup Increment Labs, which is said to be the world’s first light-meter integrated watch. The design features a light sensor and both aperture and shutter priority modes, a red backlight, and a golden-hour alarm, notes Digital Camera World. It’s the brainchild of photographer Rich Soler, who came up with the idea while struggling with manual photography, pondering, “What if you could measure light everywhere you go?” He brought in a university friend, Eddie Wells, and the pair set about founding Increment Labs. Photographer and photojournalist Martin Parr joined Magnum Photos in 1988 as an associate and remained a member of the cooperative for the next 30 years, serving as the agency’s president between 2013 and 2017. Following Parr’s death late last year, the Magnum Gallery in Paris has unveiled a solo exhibition dedicated to the images the photographer created during his tenure at with the organization, “Martin Parr: In Plain View,” on view through June 6, 2026.
