State of the Art: AI-Generated Faces Fool Most People, But Training Improves Detection

AI is now able to generate images of faces that many people mistake for real photographs, but, notes PetaPixel, new research suggests that five minutes of training can improve detection. Researchers from the University of Reading, the University of Greenwich, the University of Leeds, and the University of Lincoln in the U.K. tested 664 participants on their ability to distinguish real human faces from images generated by AI software known as StyleGAN3. Participants with typical face recognition abilities correctly identified fake faces just 31% of the time. A random guess would result in an accuracy of around 50%.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: Adobe Premiere Gets a Sleeker Name and Some New AI Tools

Adobe has announced Premiere 26, the latest version of its Adobe Premiere video editing software, and, notes DP Review, besides its subtle renaming, the new iteration brings some useful AI tools. The most significant is Object Masks, which the company started publicly beta testing late last year. It updates the editor's built-in masking tools to make it much easier to select a specific subject in your video, such as a person or object, and cut it out so you can apply effects to it independently from the background.    Read the full Story >>

In Fashion: Martin Parr's Last Shoot for Vogue

Martin Parr, who died in December at age 73, was best known as a documentary photographer who probed the idiosyncrasies of British culture. But, notes Vogue, he also left his mark on fashion photography. His last fashion shoot was an extravagant Vogue Italia portfolio made in advance of the Winter Olympics, taking place this month across the Alpine belt of Lombardy and northeast Italy. “I love playing the game of fashion photography without knowing what the rules are,” he once said.   Read the full Story >>
