Downtown Toronto’s Image Centre is digging into photo history for “Magnum’s First,” a re-staging of the celebrated picture agency’s long-forgotten inaugural exhibition. The exhibition was shown at several Austrian venues in 1955-56 but, notes The Art Newspaper, it hasn’t been seen in North America until now. Once thought lost, the show—a reflection of postwar life and human resilience—was rediscovered in the basement of the Institut Français in Innsbruck, Austria, in 2006. notes The Image Center.

The deadline for entering the Paris Photo–Aperture PhotoBook Awards is just days away—September 5—so get your applications ready. Since 2012, the Paris Photo–Aperture PhotoBook Awards celebrate the book’s contribution to the evolving narrative of photography. The awards recognize excellence in three categories of photobook publishing: First PhotoBook, PhotoBook of the Year, and Photography Catalog of the Year. There are two phases to the selection process: a pre-selection in New York and a final selection at Paris Photo (Nov. 13-16, 2025).
