Ross J. Wallette, a popular Washington State photographer, videographer and climbing guide, died on Aug. 18 in a fall while climbing Mount Fury, one of the most challenging mountains in the Cascade Range. Wallette’s father said his son was accompanying a researcher to the summit of Mount Fury, southeast of Bellingham in North Cascades National Park, when the accident happened, notes the Tri-State Herald. Roughly five years ago, Wallette turned to photographing technical climbing, building a reputation for capturing difficult ascents, adds PetaPixel.

Beatlemania will come to London’s Gagosian gallery this month with a show featuring photographs that Paul McCartney made during the group’s rise to fame, notes The Art Newspaper. The exhibition “Rearview Mirror: Liverpool-London-Paris Paris” (through October 5) follows a larger presentation of McCartney's photos at Gagosian Beverly Hills earlier this year. The Gagosian show coincides with the touring exhibition “Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm,” at the de Young, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco through October 5. Sigma calls its new 200mm F2 DG OS Sports lens a first of its kind for full-frame mirrorless cameras, but, notes DP Review, it harkens back to some classic pieces of glass that are still sought after today. Available for L mount and Sony E mount, the fast telephoto prime is aimed at sports and portrait photographers. It has a minimum focusing distance of 1.7m (5’6") and can accept 105mm filters. The lens also features optical image stabilization that, says Sigma, offers up to 6.5 stops of shake correction.

The International Photography Awards has announced the 11 category winners of its 2025 competition. One will be named the “International Photographer of the Year” at the IPA Gala in Athens in October and receive a $10,000 cash prize. The non-professional winner will earn the title “Discovery of the Year” and $5,000, notes PetaPixel. Among the winners: Abdelrahman Alkahlout’s series "Echoes of Genocide" (Editorial/Press category), which shows the effects of the war in Gaza.
