Polaroid’s instant film has remained a part of both photography and pop culture history. But is that iconic white border around a square photo part of a trademarked aesthetic, or just integral to how instant film works? The courts are poised to examine that question and several others as a trademark infringement case between Polaroid and Fujifilm will soon likely come to trial, notes Digital Camera World. The lawsuit questions whether or not Fujifilm’s Instax Square film infringes on Polaroid’s intellectual property, which includes two trademarks, one for the logo and one for the design of the film itself.

Northern Ontario photographer Brandon Simpson got the thrift-store deal of a lifetime when he bought a Leica M3 camera for just $10.49. The camera, notes DIY Photography, can easily be worth more than $2,000. Simpson, who goes by Artistic_Doubt_2758 on Reddit, shared images of his find in the Leica subreddit. The camera Simpson found was a double-stroke version of the M3, which is more valuable than the single-stroke variants, adds DIYP.

Alicia Vera is a Mexico City-based editorial and commercial photographer whose projects include “Basketball in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca” (2018) and “Stripped” (2009–11), for which she spent years documenting strippers in Miami and the Bay Area. She’s also been photographing her own family. “I think I knew deep down, one day, everything’s going to be so different,” she tells Hyperallergic. Her new book Va a Llover Toda La Noche focuses on her mother, Conception, who has Alzheimer’s.
