Insight: How to Find and Photograph Comet SWAN 25B

Every so often, the sky drops us a surprise, and, notes DIY Photography, this month that surprise comes in the form of Comet SWAN 25B, a faint, misty traveler first noticed in images from the SWAN instrument on the SOHO spacecraft. If you want to see SWAN 25B, you need to work for it. This comet isn’t high in the midnight sky where the stars blaze. It hangs low, close to the Sun. Exhibitions: 'Black Photojournalism' at the Carnegie Museum of Art

In the 1930s, the Pittsburgh Courier was one among many Black newspapers reporting on the burgeoning civil rights movement and African America life. Newspapers such as the Courier, Atlanta Daily World, and The Chicago Defender take center stage in “Black Photojournalism,” an exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art (through Jan. 19, 2026). Honor Roll: Kathy Ryan to Receive the Dr Erich Salomon Award

The German Photographic Society is awarding the Dr. Erich Salomon Prize 2025 to Kathy Ryan, the longtime director of photography at The New York Times Magazine, notes The Eye of Photography. “Kathy Ryan has been a pioneer of combining fine art photography with photojournalism and so played a key role in defining the visual identity of the magazine. Few other print magazines stand for such a wide range of photographic applications as The New York Times Magazine, which Ryan interpreted with virtuosity,” notes the organization.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: Nikon's ZR 6K Full-Frame Cine Cam Is Filled With RED's Color Science

Nikon has officially announced the ZR 6K, its first in-house cinema camera since its acquisition of the cinema camera company RED. Before the acquisition, Nikon was embroiled with RED in a lawsuit over RAW video patents. Now, notes DIY Photography, the new compact full-frame cine cam blends RED’s color science with Nikon’s imaging and stabilization tech.
