Tech News: Nikon Will Also be Raising its US Prices... Again

Nikon has announced that it will carry out another "price adjustment" in the US, set to take effect on September 1, reports DP Review.  The company previously raised prices in response to President Trump’s tariffs. Nikon has not said which of its products will be impacted, and what pricing will look like next month. However, its previous adjustment saw lens and camera body prices go up by an average of around 10 percent. US  policies around tariffs have essentially been in flux since they were announced, likely making it hard for companies to plan their pricing, adds DPR.   Read the full Story >>

State of the Art: Midjourney Slams Disney Lawsuit Over AI Training

Midjourney recently issued its first response to a lawsuit brought by Disney and Universal, arguing that the Hollywood studios have no power to prevent AI training based on their works. The two studios sued Midjourney earlier this summer, calling its popular AI-powered image generator a "bottomless pit of plagiarism" for pirating their libraries. This summer astronomers made an exciting discovery, observing an interstellar object — only the third ever observed — hurtling toward the center of the solar system. The news of the object, dubbed 3I/ATLAS, has caught the attention of astrophotographers, as well as Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb, who, notes Futurism, is known for making predictions about interstellar objects being relics from an extraterrestrial civilization.
