Can deleting old emails and photos help the UK tackle ongoing drought this year? That’s the hope, according to recommendations from the country’s National Drought Group. The proliferation of data centers is raising concerns about how much water it takes to power servers and keep them cool, notes The Verge. (A small data center has been estimated to use upwards of 25 million liters of water per year if it relies on old-school cooling methods, reports TV.) So far, adds DIY Photography, the idea has met with some hostility.

“Photography is not only an artistic medium for me but also a tool to explore, question, and visualise belonging,” says photographer Ewelina Bialonszewska. Born in Poland and raised in Germany, Bialonszewska has oner the years traveled back to her hometown to capture the feeling of home in an ongoing documentary series called “Motherland.” The work has now been collected in a publication that, notes It’s Nice that, “quite literally allows her to plant her Polish roots on whatever soil she finds herself on.”

Ocean Photographer of the Year Thursday August 21, 2025
The finalists for the Ocean Photographer of the Year 2025 contest have been officially revealed, showcasing what the competition’s organizers call “breathtaking images that celebrate the ocean’s beauty and highlight the urgent need to protect it.” Among the finalists: images of a marine iguana “mid-sneeze,” a troupe of skeleton shrimps that has colonized a gorgonian coral, and a spaceship-like jellyfish that appears to be departing Earth’s atmosphere. Category winners and the top Ocean Photographer of the Year prize will be announced in September.
