The United States Golf Association has reached a long-term agreement with the family of celebrated sports photographer Hy Peskin for the USGA Museum to maintain the archive of Peskin’s 1,700 innovative and historic golf images. Peskin, who died in 2005 at age 89, was the first staff photographer for Sports Illustrated. As part of the collection, the USGA obtains the rights to one of golf’s iconic images: Ben Hogan’s 1-iron approach shot on the 72nd hole of the 1950 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.

The Pentagon deleted and reposted a video boasting about the Trump administration's focus on drone warfare. The first version featured a drone delivering a memo to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accompanied by the Metallica song “Enter the Sandman.” The video was later deleted and reposted without the music, A Metallica spokesperson confirmed to Rolling Stone that the song had been used without permission. Metallica has a long history of protecting the rights to its music, adds PetaPixel.

Facebook is cracking down on accounts that steal and repost content from other users in an effort to reduce spam in feeds, reports The Verge. Creators who repeatedly reuse someone else’s videos, photos, or text posts will lose access to Facebook monetization programs for “a period of time,” Meta announced on June 14. When Facebook’s systems detect duplicate videos, the platform will also reduce the distribution of the copies to prevent them from taking views away from the original creator.

A law firm is investigating a possible class action lawsuit after Sony camera owners lost access to the free photo editing software Capture One Express, which was included with many Sony mirrorless cameras. Capture One allowed users to organize, edit, and export photos — often serving as their main editing tool. But in December 2023, Capture One notified users that Capture One Express would no longer be available starting January 30, 2024. In an ad posted on the website Top Class Actions, law firm Wolf Popper is asking affected customers to fill out a form to check if they may qualify to join a class action lawsuit, notes PetaPixel.
