Photography has not been immune to the broad decline of the art market over the last couple of years, but it has been more resilient: Market tracker ArtTactic reported that photo sales at the big three auction houses dropped by 5.6 percent in 2024, while auction sales across the entire art market dropped 27 percent last year. And though the total number of photos sold at auction declined in 2024, that figure still marked the second-highest sales volume since ArtTactic’s analysis began in 2015. The recent Photo London art fair—the biggest photo fair in the UK—highlighted photography’s staying power, notes Art News.

Thousands of people fleeing the civil war in Sudan’s Darfur region have recently arrived in eastern Chad, but due in part to the Trump administration’s cuts to foreign aid, only a skeleton staff of international humanitarian workers are on hand to receive them. Nikon was Japan’s best-selling full-frame mirrorless camera manufacturer last month for the first time, according to Japanese retail analyst BCN+R. That achievement was due in large part to sales of the new Nikon Z5 II, notes PetaPixel. Nikon achieved a monthly market share of 33.4%. Sony, which has been the top dog nearly every month since the original a7 launched more than a decade ago, finished in a very close second position with 32.1% market share. Canon trailed in a not-so-distant third position with 24%.
