The Trump White House has already posted more than 2,600 photos on its Flickr photostream, and, notes former Obama White House photographer Pete Souza at Vaniy Fair, it “is apparent that the current official photographers have unlimited access to all of Trump’s public events—and good access to some situations not open to the press. I have no criticism of the technical or aesthetic quality of their images.” But, he adds, "it’s a bit unsettling to look through the nearly 100 albums on Flickr. It’s like looking at the set of a reality TV show, starring Donald Trump.”

The Photography Show presented by the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) returned to New York’s Park Avenue Armory last month and broke its previous attendance records, with nearly 15,000 visitors recorded throughout the event. “It’s a unique sense of optimism for a commercial art fair in a down moment for the market,” notes The Art Newspaper. According to the economist Clare McAndrew's latest Art Market Report, worldwide sales fell by 12% last year, the third-steepest contraction of the past 15 years.

Smithsonian Tuesday May 6, 2025
After wildfires destroyed thousands of homes and led to the evacuation of as many as 180,000 people earlier this year, Californians were left to rebuild communities, notes Smithsonian, which recently talked with photographer Ivan Kashinsky, who documented the Palisades fire up close, and wildlife biologist Anton Sorokin, who photographed the animals that fled and perished during the fires. They note that such fires may be the new normal for California.

Adobe has launched two new versions of its text-to-image generative AI model alongside a host of new Firefly features and Creative Cloud app updates coming to Photoshop and Illustrator, notes The Verge. Adobe says that Firefly Image Model 4 is its “fastest, most controllable, and most realistic Firefly image model yet,” allowing users to generate images in up to 2K resolution with more control over style, format sizes, and camera angles. The updates are designed to improve the quality of image outputs while allowing them to be generated “quickly and efficiently.”
