GOST Monday April 21, 2025
For two decades, photographer (and Pro Photo Daily reader) Joseph Michael Lopez traversed the streets of the boroughs of New York, by foot, capturing the city as he experienced it. His images are devoid of the visual tropes associated with NYC, notes publisher GOST, which is bringing out Lopez’s new book JML NYC 02-23. Lopez, who was born in New York and is now based in Rome, will be signing copies of the publication at the AIPAD art fair on Thursday, April 24, at 4:00pm.

Google acted illegally to maintain a monopoly in some online advertising technology, a federal judge ruled last Thursday, adding to legal troubles that could reshape the $1.86 trillion company and alter its power over the internet. The Justice Department and a group of states had sued Google, arguing that its monopoly in ad technology allowed the company to charge higher prices and take a bigger portion of each sale, notes The New York Times. Another federal judge ruled in August that the company had a monopoly in online search.

A cache of never-before-seen Robert Mapplethorpe S&M photographs has surfaced in New York City, “bringing with it all the swagger and controversy that defined the photographer’s boundary-shattering legacy,” notes the Observer. In private hands for nearly half a century, the portfolio was recently purchased by the Kinsey, Institute—the research institute focused on human sexuality at the University of Indiana—which already has an important collection of Mapplethorpe photography.
