Esteemed Formula 1 photographer Peter van Egmond, who attended more than 550 races and was also a photographer for Red Bull Racing team, died on Jan. 2 after battling cancer. He was 68, notes the GP Blog. Red Bull F1 driver Max Verstappen recently paid tribute to the Dutch photographer at Instagram, acknowledging the lasting impact Van Egmond had on the sport. Van Egmond discovered his love for Formula 1 as a child while attending races at Circuit Park Zandvoort with his father, notes Sports Illustrated.

The European Union has implemented a new law that makes the USB-C port mandatory for a range of electronic devices, including smartphones. Under the EU rules, consumers will no longer need a different charger for various electronic devices and customers can also opt out of receiving a new charger with each device they buy, notes PetaPixel. In 2022, the European Parliament and member states voted overwhelmingly in favor of scrapping alternative charging methods in a bid to reduce environmental waste and solve market fragmentation.

SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year Tuesday January 7, 2025
Hira Punjabi of Maharashtra, India, is the winner of the Society of the International Nature and Wildlife Photographers Bird Photographer of the Year 2024 competition for his image of a parakeet attacking a lizard in a tree in Keoladeo National Park in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India. “This is a bird sanctuary where many migratory birds come here in winter and some resident birds breed here,” Punjabi explains. The competition raises money for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), a charitable organization based in the UK.
