Eduardo Labat is the Best in Show winner of the 13th annual Ocean Art Underwater Photo Contest for his image of white-tip reef sharks circling in waters near Roca Partida, one of the Revillagigedo Islands off Mexico’s Pacific Coast. “On this particular afternoon, a large aggregation of white tips started forming some distance from the rock. Dozens of sharks formed a tight group at an approximate depth of 25 feet,” he notes. Labat captured the scene using a Sony a6600 with a Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 fisheye lens.

George Kalinsky, who parlayed a chance shot of Muhammad Ali training for a fight in Miami into a long career as the first official photographer for Madison Square Garden in New York, died on Jan. 16 at a senior living facility in Manhattan. He was 88, notes The new York Times. Kalinsky shot boxing matches regularly, as well as working New York Knicks basketball games and New York Rangers hockey games. He is perhaps best known for his photo of Willis Reed, the Knicks’ wounded captain, stepping onto the Garden floor for Game 7 of the 1970 N.B.A. finals against the Los Angeles Lakers.
